Over the next two years funding for two year olds is expanding.

More families will qualify.

Until then the existing arrangements still apply:

Nursery Education Sessions – 2 year olds

You can claim a free place for your child if you receive one or more of the following:

• Income Support
• Income-based Job Seekers Allowance
• Employment Support Allowance
• National Asylum Support Service
• Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit and/or Working Tax Credit if income is £16,190 or less
• The child is looked after by Derby City Council
• Your child has a disability and you claim PIP, DLA or have an EHCP in place

You can start claiming up to 15 hours when your child turns two. The date you can claim will depend on when your child’s birthday is.

Nursery Education Sessions – 3 and 4 year olds

All children qualify for the universal entitlement (15 hours) of free education. However if you fit the criteria below you could qualify for the extended entitlement (30 hours). You can start claiming up to 30 hours of free nursery education when your child turns three. The date you can claim will depend on when your child’s birthday is.
